A punch needle is a tool used to push wool or yarn through fabric in order to create a continuous loop stitch. The punch needle is a modern form of the traditional rug hooking craft. The technique allows you to create items such as rugs, wall hangings or cushion covers out of fabric strips and wool.
The punch needle is adjustable, allowing you to create four different heights of loop (as well as flat stitches) which gives you multiple textures within one piece of work. The punch needle can create four different loop heights:
A - 15mm B - 11mm C - 8mm D - 4mm
The metal tube of the needle is 5mm in diameter, the overall length of the punch needle is 19 cm.
This punch needle uses medium, aran, worsted weight yarn; you could also double up thinner yarns.
